Dr. Gary Wessel

Molecular Biology, Cell Biology and Biochemistry

Gary is our faculty mentor, as well as the professor of Brown's courses in Synthetic Biology, due to which we are all here. He is a ridiculously valuable member of our team and his encyclopedic knowledge and ability to design complex biological systems in seconds never ceases to amaze us.

Gary's research interest is the egg, including the molecular biology of oogenesis, fertilization, and the specification of primordial germ cells during early development. Gary and his lab explore conserved mechanisms found in mice, starfish, and especially in sea urchins, and his research is definitely worth checking out.
